I do not read a single newspaper, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it. The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads newspapers.

Spring in Vancouver: skiing in the morning and sunning on the beach in the afternoon.
Wet Vancouver.
We drove to Squamish (1hr15min from Vancouver) to witness the large gathering of Bald Eagles. Based on population estimates, up to 5% of the world’s bald eagles winter in this area. From the main viewing area on the municipal dyke often dozens of eagles can be seen. This event lasts until early February.
"For decades, thousands of Bald Eagles have been gathering on the riverbanks of the Squamish and Cheakamus Rivers, feasting on the ample salmon that either did not quite make it to the spawning channels, or have accomplished their life’s goal, and thus have met their subsequent demise. Working to preserve their energy in the winter months, eagles will eat up to a two pounds of this high value protein every day."
"The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), is the only eagle unique to North America. The Bald Eagle's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless. The Bald Eagle is found over most of North America, from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico. About half of the world's 70,000 Bald Eagles live in Alaska. Combined with British Columbia's population of about 20,000, the northwest coast of North America is by far their greatest stronghold."
I think we arrived there just in time to see the last eagle leave Squamish.

"All truth passes through 3 stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
